The Muskie Fellows Listserv is an on-line forum established for fellows of the Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program, a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the US Department of State and administered by IREX.
This electronic mailing list is intended to enable fellows to connect with one another during the program, and also serves as a mechanism for IREX staff to keep in touch with fellows, keeping them posted on program policies and developments.
The Muskie Fellows Listserv is a closed electronic mailing list exclusively for the use of Muskie fellows, IREX and ECA staff. All access to the list is controlled by an IREX staff list administrator.
Please remember that this list is for topics relevant to the Muskie Program only. When posting to the list, please follow the following guidelines:
Rules governing the use of the Muskie liststerv
a. Correspondence submitted to the liststerv will automatically be sent for review to an IREX staff person, who will then authorize and submit the e-mail for distribution to fellows. Correspondence may be rejected if it is not in keeping with listserv policy.
b. If the e-mail is deemed inappropriate for distribution, staff will inform you in a brief response to your message the reason that it will not be distributed, so that you will be able to take that into account when submitting future message
c. Messages that are permitted include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
1. Interesting articles related to academic study in the US or specific fields of study
2. Opportunities to participate in conferences, join associations, subscribe to listservs etc. if they are judged to be of merit to some or all Muskie fellows.
3. Tips on internships or community service activities
4. Success stories
5. Helpful hints, suggestions on living/studying in the US if they are deemed to be received with interest by a majority of fellows
d. Messages that are not permitted include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
1. Inappropriate language or inappropriate, negative, or provocative statements
2. Offers to sell/buy goods
3. Greetings such as Happy new year or Happy 8th of March. While these are nice, our experience with managing listservs shows that once one such message is sent out, everyone else wants to send one too and this creates a lot of work for the listserv manager.
4. Messages targeted to one or a few specific fellows
5. Messages regarding products or services, such as sales or promotions
6. Jokes, forwards and other non-relevant communications
e. IREX and ECA will of course use the listerv frequently to update you on program issues
f. IREX recognizes that there are some grey areas that exist, which might not be covered in the above guidelines. We reserve the right to judge on a case-by-case basis whether such messages should be distributed.
If you ever need to get in contact with the owner of the list, please send an e-mail to the list administrator. Please also email the administrator if you would like to change the email address to which listserv messages are currently being sent.
Again, welcome and enjoy!
